The Offroad Club Monaco (OCM) took part as sponsor of the event organised by the Embassy of Italy in Monaco for the second edition of the Italian Sport Day Worldwide, held on 29 September under the presidency of H.E. Ambassador Manuela Ruosi at the Yacht Club de Monaco, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and numerous personalities from the worlds of sport, culture, academia, and entertainment.

Founded in the Principality, the Offroad Club Monaco (OCM) develops projects at the crossroads of sport, innovation, culture, and sustainability. Inspired by the legacy of Prince Albert I and the commitment of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, OCM views “the road” as both a physical and philosophical journey – a terrain for human exploration beyond beaten paths.

Driven by a multidisciplinary vision blending well-being, social interaction, and philanthropy, OCM also relies on a strong academic dimension, working with European universities and specialised research centres. Each project aims to experiment with and promote innovative, ecosystem-friendly solutions, contributing to a more sustainable and interconnected future.

During the event, Dr. Massimiliano Mordenti, co-founder of the OCM together with his wife Erminia Fezia Mordenti, presented his world record, emphasising its sporting value, the importance of discipline and respect for rules, and the exemplary nature of his choice: prioritising environmental sustainability over the pursuit of power or speed at any cost.

On 15 September 2025, he achieved the first UIM World Record for long-distance jet ski powered entirely by bioethanol, officially recognised by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).

This unique result was made possible thanks to a FlexFuel-converted jet ski, equipped with an innovative anti-spill refuelling system specially designed by engineer Andrea Pezzini, combining innovation and sustainability. Dr. Mordenti publicly thanked him during his speech. The jet ski used for the record was exhibited in the Ballroom of the Yacht Club de Monaco, the venue of the event, arousing great interest among officials and guests – some of whom even had the pleasure of sitting on the machine.

As Dr. Mordenti declared:

“The record achieved was not only a sporting challenge but also a message about sustainability. We chose bioethanol and renounced a more powerful jet ski because we believe that sport must contribute to building a future that respects the environment – within the limits of today’s available technology – while keeping our eyes firmly on the future.”

He continued: “My wife and I, members of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation for many years, wish first and foremost to thank H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Mr. Olivier Wenden, Vice-President and CEO of the Foundation, as we have learned so much about what each of us can do to protect the environment, the seas, and the oceans. Even a simple gesture, such as picking up a plastic bag from the ground and putting it in the bin, matters. My family and I have lived on the Rock for many years, and from the very first day, we were struck by the inscription on the street drains: ‘The sea starts here.’ I am convinced that if each of us, in our own way, takes small actions, together we can create a powerful and universal message for the common good.”

Dr. Diego Nargiso, Senior Sport Manager at the Politecnico di Torino, honorary member of the International Technical-Scientific Committee of the Offroad Club Monaco project, and former tennis champion, brilliantly hosted the evening while actively contributing to the technical panel and the overall organisation of this successful institutional initiative.

He recalled how discipline and respect for rules shape athletes in their achievements, taking as an example Dr. Mordenti, who became a pilot of the Monegasque Powerboating Federation to comply with UIM safety standards, and who, thanks to his rigour, succeeded in setting the first long-distance world record on a 100% bioethanol jet ski.

Dr. Mordenti added: “I had to prepare in an extremely serious way, following all the required formalities. I thank President Rossi for his support throughout this entire period… There’s an example that I find quite fitting: as children, we all loved eating popcorn. But in reality, popcorn is just a simple grain of corn that, once transformed, becomes popcorn. In the same way, one by one, together, we can achieve great things. My wife Erminia Fezia Mordenti also supported me in all the technical and regulatory aspects of the Monegasque Powerboating Federation and the UIM, which were essential for accomplishing a world record — a very serious undertaking. I joke, of course, as I don’t consider myself a professional athlete, but respecting regulations remains fundamental. The principles of sport are respect for the rules, as well as for the safety and health of the entire team — without whom nothing would have been possible.”

The record initiative is part of the philosophy behind the “The Wake of Monaco” project, through which the Offroad Club Monaco, led by Massimiliano Mordenti, aims to chart new “off-road” routes and experiences starting from the Principality — and always returning to it, Monaco being, in their eyes, “home.” It is a way to combine a passion for outdoor sport, environmental respect, and dialogue between peoples, with a multidisciplinary approach that brings together universities, research centres, and international sports federations.

The success of the record and the invitation extended by H.E. Ambassador Manuela Ruosi to participate in the Italian Sport Day Worldwide confirm the role of the Offroad Club Monaco as a promoter of sport, culture, friendship, and environmental sustainability, in synergy with Monegasque, Italian, and international institutions. The next meeting will take place on 21 November at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, during the academic scientific workshop “History and Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Mediterranean: From the Maritime Republics to the Technological Revolutions of the Present.”

The evening was also marked by the screening of the institutional video produced by MAECI and the panel “Let’s Move Together for Our Health,” moderated by Professor Andrea Carteny (La Sapienza University of Rome), Coordinator of the International Technical-Scientific Committee of the Offroad Club Monaco, alongside Professor Giorgio Meneschincheri and Professor Francesca Romano Lenzi.

Professor Carteny, from La Sapienza University of Rome and Coordinator of the OCM’s Scientific Committee, retraced the history of sport, from its Greek origins to the first Olympic Games, emphasising its role in promoting peace and unity among peoples – up to today’s milestone in Monaco: the world record for long-distance jet ski powered 100% by bioethanol, achieved by Dr. Massimiliano Mordenti, co-founder and CEO of the Offroad Club Monaco, and initiator of the OCM Scientific Committee. Among its many themes, the committee focuses on sport as a means to unite people through a shared commitment to environmental respect.

Professor Lenzi highlighted the positive impact of sport in contexts of social and environmental degradation, and its ability to bring people together, particularly among the younger generations. Finally, Professor Meneschincheri recalled the health benefits of prescribing sport as a medical tool for prevention and treatment, illustrated by his association “Tennis & Friends,” which combines sport, personalities, and preventive healthcare initiatives.

The evening also gave the floor to several figures from the world of sport and civil society, including Marlène Nidecker(Peace and Sport Foundation), Marco Simone, Max Biaggi, Gianmarco Casiraghi, Francesco Castellacci (active supporter of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation), as well as Matteo Trentin, Jonathan Milan, and Davide Formolo. It concluded with a tribute to Maestro Giorgio Armani, through a video provided by the iconic Italian fashion house, reaffirming his profound attachment to the values of sport – in which the Maestro declared: “In sport, what I love is commitment.”
